Parent coaching is a service that aims to help caretakers in a non-judmental setting make progress toward their parenting goals. Coaching utilizes education and evidence-based strategies to navigate family concerns including behavior issues. The role of the parent coach is to teach parents strategies and skills to create more connection and cooperation in the home and provide accountability, reflection opportunities, and support in integrating new skills for the betterment of the entire family unit. Parent coaching is NOT intended to tell you how to parent, rather to give you the tools and strategies to help you meet your unique family goals and provide new ways of looking at common concerns and problems within the parent-child relationship.
Parent coaching is NOT therapy. Intentionally Focused LLC does not employ or market themselves as licensed therapists in any capacity. We encourage clients to think about therapy as "looking backwards into the past". Therapy services often utilize strategies that require recalling and dealing with past trauma and mental health issues. On the contrary, coaching can be viewed as "from the present moment going forward." This means that while at times childhood memories might arise, the goal of coaching is to help clients determine how those past experiences are shaping their current decisions as parents and how we can actively make changes for the future. At Intentionally Focused LLC, we will always encourage clients to find a licensed family therapist if something arises during a session that is outside of what we are qualified to address.
Our coaching services are what we call "parent-centric". This means that we focus on parents because we understand this is where lasting change happens in the family unit. Many services aim to help parents "fix" certain issues, such as, "What to do when your child hits." While such topics are incredibly important and we will certainly address them, our coaching services are NOT child modification techniques. We focus on the root issues, which 99% of the time start with parents.
Unfortunately, sometimes parents view needing assistance in their parenting as a sign of failure or weakness. We encourage clients to view this as quite the opposite - a sign of strength. If you are someone who is dealing with more frustration than joy in your parenting, if you long for more connection, or if you just want to have someone in your corner on your parenting journey, then hiring a parent coach might be exactly what you need! Just like nobody would judge you for hiring a personal trainer to help you meet your fitness goals, we encourage you to dismiss internal (or external) judgment regarding hiring a parent coach. These professional services can be the difference maker in creating the family life you long to have!
If you are searching for ways to improve connection with your children, need assistance with a specific parenting issue, or simply want to learn about research-based methods of parenting, parent coaching services are right for you! Coaching services are for all parents and caregivers that serve a caretaker role in the life of a child; this means it is available to parents, step-parents, grandparents, etc. If you have read books, listened to podcasts, etc. but find yourself struggling to integrate the information you have learned, you are ready for this next step! A highly specialized parent coach can make the difference between "knowing" the right things to do and actually being able to live them out!
If you are a caregiver, you want to improve your parenting skills and build more connection with your children, you are reflective and open to new ideas, you are exactly where you need to be! During our consultation, we will have the opportunity to determine if our services are a right fit for your family but can assure you that parents who are reflective, open, and willing have come to the right place!
Given that our approach to coaching is parent-centric, the content and sessions will serve any and all caretakers signficantly, including parents of children with special needs or circumstances. Our focus is on helping parents understand their stressors, manage their own emotions, and make plans for how their needs impact those of their children. While we believe this is crucial for all parents, we understand the unique stressors that parents of children with special needs face on a daily basis and therefore would enocurage our services all the more. We believe you deserve to have someone on your team to help coach you through learning to advocate for a child who needs you in such unique ways.
With that said, there might be specific areas of concern that arise during a session which require additional resources. If this presents itself, we will do our best to give recommendations for services such as play-based therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, etc. depending on the unique circumstances.
Individual and group coaching sessions consist of a weekly 1 hour video call for a duration of 12 weeks. In addition to our weekly meeting, the most successful clients devote about 2 hours per week to preparing by completing the assigned workbook and video content.
At Intetionally Focused LLC, we do what we do because we are passionate about helping families and know the drastic impact our work has on parents and children. We encourage potential clients to look at the cost and time commitment as investments because both are truly ways of investing in yourself, your children, your family, and your future.
We understand the hesitations that arise with spending money on a new service but truly encourage you to dream about the potential relationships you could build with your children and within your family - we believe that kind of peace is priceless!
Since we know finances are a huge factor when deciding on a service, we want you to hear firsthand what clients say regarding their investment.
"The time, work, and money are worth it for long term results in changing your life and the lives of your children. I would say that even if a person didn't have children it would be extremely beneficial to do the work for understanding yourself more and understanding others." -Mother of two, ages 3 & 5
"We choose to spend our money where we feel is valuable. Understanding your child and being able to process and help them grow as a confident and self-regulated adult is important. The time and money is invaluable." -Preschool Director and Mother of two, ages 6 & 8
"Working with Catalina is definitely worth the investment and the time commitment. The improvement with my son is truly amazing." - Mother of one, age 10
Since these services are parent-centric, we will not have communication with your children. We welcome parents to use the session time as a way of investing in themselves and therefore encourage you to not have children present as much as possible. This helps to eliminate distractions and allows you time and space to process our sessions fully.
We always encourage parents or caregivers to attend sessions together if they WANT to. We know whenever there is consistency within the home, children learn better. With that said, if only one parent chooses to receive coaching services, the results are still highly beneficial.
For many families, parent coaching is something very new. It is normal to have questions and even to be skeptical. While nothing in life is guaranteed, we can assure you that every client we have had the privilege of working with has noted significant benefits with their children and their family as a whole. As a certified coach, I can assure you that the methods I use are scientifically proven to be effective and I have been through them myself! I do not ask you to do anything I haven't implemented in some way in my own home and will tailor our sessions to your family's unique needs. At the end of the day of course, all outcomes are dependent on your willingness to commit and implement the tools and strategies we discuss during our sessions.
